We have received several questions following the letter sent to members of the Odanak Abenaki First Nation regarding the Settlement Agreement with Canada (specific claims related to the St. Francis Mission and the 38 lots). Please see the following important clarifications:
- If you received the letter by mail, it means that you are officially a member of Odanak. Therefore, there is no need to take any steps to confirm your status if you are already registered.
- Please note that only one letter per mailing address will be sent.
The March 13, 2026 deadline mainly applies to:
- Individuals who are not currently registered as members of Odanak but who may be eligible;
- Individuals who wish to have their eligibility validated.
Eligible individuals must submit their application for membership before March 13, 2026 in order to be considered for the initial distribution of the compensation.
IMPORTANT REMINDER
- The distribution to living adult members will be made directly by bank transfer (details to follow).
- For minor members and estates, the funds will be managed through a dedicated trust, as discussed at the special assembly.
